A good way to begin your plumber job description, then, is with a brief, 2-3 word description of the job, giving those who seek the service some basic information about the work environment and offering potential candidates some insight into the company. For instance, “The establishment I am interviewing with requires that we maintain continuous excellent drainage throughout all phases of operations, and that our drainage system is regularly inspected and cleaned…” A plumber job description will need to be very specific and offer much information for those interviewing on a case by case basis. The rest of the resume will become more focused around a particular plumbing company or contractor.

A typical plumber job description will also mention various plumbing installations that the candidate is familiar with. Specifically, they will discuss common repairs, installations and maintenance processes that they may handle. Plumbing experts and technicians should list all relevant experience and qualifications that they possess. It should be stated where these qualifications are obtained, and how they were acquired. Also, it is often a good idea to list any additional training courses that have been completed by the plumbing professional, as this can further demonstrate to potential employers that the individual is qualified for the position. Finally, those with extensive professional experience in plumbing installations should always highlight any additional specialized training they have received.

In many instances, a plumber job posting will contain a “To Do” list. Listing items on a list helps keep tasks organized and focused. It can also serve to remind individuals of what needs to be accomplished for each project. It is not uncommon for an experienced plumber to be asked to review an installation following the completion of a certain amount of time. This can be a useful exercise for developing interpersonal skills and increasing technical skills.

There are several things to consider when trying to develop a strong plumbing resume. Plumbing is one of the more popular fields to specialize in, because it offers plenty of opportunities for career advancement. An applicant must focus their experience and education on that field and be aware of the industry sub-sectors that exist. Plumbing systems can vary greatly depending on where the plumber works, and an applicant must demonstrate their technical skills with respect to those sub-sectors.

Plumbing systems are continually evolving; therefore, an applicant must always be up to date on the latest technology. There are numerous plumbing materials and supplies to choose from. To make sure that they are current, an individual should try to gather some references and information on past jobs. References are usually best obtained from past customers, because they provide a first hand look at the quality of work that was performed. A plumber job description should not only include the skill set and abilities required, but the personal characteristics that make a great plumber.
